Abstract
This paper describes a usability study comparing two alternative interface designs used to navigate the software development information space. The results of this study were used to determine the default navigation design for a software development tool. The study provided insight into how programmers navigate the software development information space and the results are described in the context of navigational theories such as visual momentum.
