Observation of Gouy scars in optical wave chaos

Abstract

We report experimental observation of scars in the wave chaos occurring in a 3-mirror optical resonator. The scars are associated with Gouy phases that are rational fractions of 2π; these lead to periodic ray paths which close after a certain number of round trips.
