Abstract
The simple cystectomy is defined as removal of the bladder without the adjacent structures such as prostate, seminal vesicles, and urethra in the male and the vagina, adnexa, uterus, and urethra in the female. Lymph node dissection is not performed. The simple cystectomy is indicated in the cases that necessitate urinary diversion for non-malignant processes of the bladder. The majority of indications for cystectomy are related to malignancies of the bladder and this implies, with a few exceptions,8,11,13 the operative technique of radical cystectomy. Thus, the simple cystectomy is infrequently performed.
