In this meta-chapter we introduce general VLSI terms and flow definitions which are used in the remainder of this book. VLSI design and its automation are now mature topics with hundreds of articles, books and dedicated journals to its credit. We only describe a small subset of the CAD universe in this chapter, mostly to introduce the subject to the non-specialist
