Chondrites are the most common class of stony meteorites. Chondrites largely consist of iron- and magnesium silicate minerals and remain unaffected from melting and differentiation. Therefore, chondrites are considered to reflect the elemental composition of the original solar nebula. Carbonaceous chondrites are a rare variety of chondrites containing numerous organic compounds, including amino acids. See “ Meteoritics ” for further reading.
