pol synthesizes all the bacterial and viral RNAs in the bacterial cells. Its subunits are ααββ′ and σ. The σ subunit identifies the promoter sequences and is required for the initiation of transcription within the cell. After about a half dozen nucleotides are hooked up, it dissociates from the other subunits and further polymerization continues with the assistance of elongation protein factors. transcription, pol I, pol II, pol III eukaryotic RNA polymerases
