Abstract
Liu Xian-Zhou was a pioneer Chinese scientist who studied the history of ancient Chinese mechanisms and the first to write, in Chinese, systematic descriptions of the machines and their functions. He was truly China’s leading pioneer in mechanical engineering. In addition to his scholarly publications, he was the first author to write textbooks in Chinese for students entering the fields of mechanisms and machines.
