Abstract
The county has three natural boundaries, the Surrey hills to the north, the River Rother and the low-lying country of Romney Marsh to the east and the English Channel to the south. Its western boundary is an administrative one, a line drawn roughly from East Grinstead in the north to a point west of Hove on the coast.
