Abstract

Vijay Tendulkar (born 1928) is one of India’s best-known living dramatists. His plays have been translated and enacted in almost all Indian languages, including English, and in several foreign languages. Among the most controversial plays were Sakharam Binder, Ghasiram Kotwal and Shantata Court Chalu Aahe (Silence, the Court Is in Session) about a woman who becomes pregnant out of wedlock. He has won many awards including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
