Abstract
On 1 January 1992 a Jewish settler was killed by an unidentified gunman near the Deir al-Balah refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, the fourth settler to be shot dead since the start of the Middle East peace talks in October the previous year. On the 2nd it was announced that 12 Palestinians (seven from the Gaza Strip and five from the West Bank) were to be deported because of their involvement in attacks on Israeli soldiers and Arab residents. Implementation of the order was delayed to allow for legal appeal, and later one exception was made.
