Abstract

In the previous chapter, I examined a series of putative explanations of political responses to unemployment and found them deficient in varying degrees. However, despite the drawbacks of the various approaches three central themes have emerged – the relationship between the unemployed and the state, the organisational resources of the unemployed and cultural resources – which I shall develop in more detail in this chapter.
