Conclusion

Abstract

Some discussion of laws that apparently treat of women has been one concern of this book. At the same time there has been an insistence that to concentrate on ‘women’ in this way is no simple matter; no clear set of tasks is irremediably made apparent or obvious. In the post-war period in Italy that arena once known with such deceptive simplicity as the ‘woman question’ was the focus for campaigns of very different kinds — for seemingly contradictory demands by groups claiming the same common set of concerns, for some gains, but also for angry and painful dissent. There was a variety of objectives and a variety of strategies for their pursuit. Overall, there was an expanding awareness of the complexity of what such politics should demand and include.
