Abstract
This chapter looks at a range of services, both preventive and supportive. The intention is to provide the general picture of good practice; obviously the full picture cannot be given here. There is a great deal being done in many areas, many authorities, many districts and by many devoted and committed people. Nevertheless the implication is always there that service supply falls short of need. Research evidence shows that sex education programmes can help to reduce sexual intercourse among young adolescents, to increase contraceptive use among those who are sexually active, and thus to reduce unwanted pregnancy.
