Abstract
It may be surprising to find a section entitled the benefits of alcohol in a report on alcohol and the public health but it is the intention of this report to review the evidence and not to propagandise. However, the very widespread use of alcohol in our society (and the experience of individual members of the working party) suggests that in certain circumstances the use of alcohol increases enjoyment and well–being and contributes to social support networks.
