Abstract
Henry King was born in Buckinghamshire, the son of an eminent clergyman. He was educated at Westminster School (where George Herbert was his exact contemporary) and Christ Church, Oxford. He became a prebend of St Paul’s in 1616, and eventually became Bishop of Chichester, but he was ejected from this post in 1643. He lived with various friends during the Interregnum, was restored to his bishopric in 1660.
