Abstract
The case-studies in Chapters 5–8 have shown that there is not one factor tending to gender-conformity in the Youth Training Scheme but many, and that they are interrelated and unlikely to be corrected by superficial measures. Simply exhorting young women to widen their aspirations, as MSC have done in the past, is certainly not enough. Indeed, in the absence of understanding support by adults, such appeals may incur trouble for young people who take them seriously.
