Abstract

Piracy of micrcomputer software is a common crime. Protection of software has implications for owners, users and creators of software and for the general public. Protection can be achieved by legal methods and technical devices. Three areas of law, namely patent, copyright and trade secret, offer potential protection to programs. However, adequate protection can be achieved only through a combination of legal and technical deterrents.
