Abstract
Samuel Beckett has not written a full-length play since Happy Days. Instead he has produced a series of briefer dramatic works for stage, radio, film and television and, as well, a series of works of prose fiction. Whereas the shorter plays follow his typical pattern, representing images of the past revolving in the consciousness of his characters, they locate these figures in less specifically defined spaces. In fact, several of these shorter plays avoid conventional scenographic images altogether, using the stage or studio simply as a place that accommodates the characters’ experience.
