On May 9, 1980, the London Financial Times carried a large advertisement for the Greater Colombo Free Trade Zone under the heading “A Boon for Labour-Intensive Industries: Sri Lanka’s Free Trade Zone Offers 600,000 Low-Cost, High-Productivity Workers.”
