Abstract

Venezuela is the northernmost country of South America, with a long (2,800 kilometer [1,740 miles]) indented coast on the Caribbean Sea. It is bordered on the west by Colombia, on the south by Brazil, and on the east by Guyana. Most of its long land boundaries (5,000 kilometers [3,100 miles]) run through very densely forested areas.
