Abstract
The June weeks that saw the end of the Dunkirk evacuation (4 June), Italy’s declaration of war on Britain (10 June), the entry of German troops into Paris (14 June), and the signing of the Franco-German armistice (23 June) left Britain standing alone, the next and obvious candidate for Nazi conquest. It also witnessed the inevitable progress towards general internment of enemy aliens.
