Abstract

From Hesketh Pearson, ‘Memories of GBS and Granville Barker: Hesketh Pearson on the Original Production of Androcles and the Lion’, Listener, 24 February 1949. Hesketh Pearson (1887–1964), actor and biographer, was the author of two biographical studies of Shaw. Androcles and the Lion was first produced at the St James’s Theatre in September 1913, Pearson taking the small part of Metellus.
