Abstract

From Frederick Sinclair, The Splendid Torchbearer: some Notes on the Life of George Bernard Shaw — Playwright, Philosopher and Prophet’, St Pancras Journal, November-December 1950. Frederick P. Sinclair (d. 1953) was Borough Librarian at St Pancras from 1934 to 1953 and editor of the St Pancras Journal (for Shaw’s association with St Pancras, see below, pp. 69–70). Sinclair describes his first encounter with Shaw at a meeting to gain support for a children’s library with Dickensian associations c. 1921.
