Abstract

From Lawrence Langner, GBS and the Lunatic (London: Hutchinson, 1964). Jitta’s Atonement was first performed at the Shubert-Garrick Theatre, Washington on 8 January 1923. Siegfried Trebitsch’s play Frau Gittas Sühne, of which Shaw’s work is a very free adaptation, was first performed at the Burgtheater, Vienna on 3 February 1920.
