Abstract

At the beginning of this study, we stated that six themes would be pursued and that these would form a framework within which conflicts and disputes, at widely different social levels, would be considered. These themes were:

  1. (i)

The basic concepts involved in any analysis of social and international conflict.

  2. (ii)

The different types of conflict that could be distinguished.

  3. (iii)

    The sources of conflicts.

  4. (iv)

The major behavioural patterns and processes involved when parties found themselves in situations of goal incompatibility.

  5. (v)

Exacerbating and dampening factors and influences upon conflict processes.

  6. (vi)

The various forms of conflict termination from victory or extermination, to a solution reached with the assistance of some third party.
