Abstract

This chapter draws biographical sketches of children whose families belonged to the Zaydi elite of the Imamate. Their fathers served in the governments of Imam Yahya and Ahmad. A substantial number of ’ulama have emerged from their houses who held positions as rulers, governors, judges, and teachers all over the country. The stories demonstrate how the children learnt about their social location, the diversity of religious affiliations, and notions of righteousness.
