Abstract
In parallel with the preceding chapter, the life histories of seven Palestinian leaders and their relation to the development of Palestinian nationalism and the Jerusalem Question are now examined. The leaders are al-Hajj Amin al-Husayni, Ahmad al-Shuqayri, Yasser Arafat, Ahmad Quray’, Hanan Ashrawi, Faysal al-Husayni and Ahmad Yassin. Do their biographies provide support for the three propositions concerning the identity-ideology nexus put forward in chapter 1? And how well does Mullins’s five-part typology apply to Palestinian nationalism?
