Impact and Major Contributions
Ukrainian theoretical astronomer Olexiy Razdolsky worked in the field of dynamical astronomy and specialized in determining and improving the orbital elements of asteroids by taking into account planetary perturbations. Most important were Razdolsky’s works that focused on the construction of his own analytical theory for the motion of asteroids of the (Р+ 1)/Рtype using the methods of Henri Poincare. He investigated effects of the eccentricity of Jupiter’s orbit by applying variable equations. Also widely known are Razdolsky’s works in determining the orbits of the Trojan asteroids (minor planets of the Jupiter group whose own orbits lie 60° ahead of, or behind, that of Jupiter itself) that involve solutions to the so-called three-body problem (Balyshev 2020, 2022) (Fig. 1).
