Abstract
This chapter deals with command files, how they were used to create objects in early modelling research, and the modern counterpart, the operation history. The chapter also deals with how parametric parts can be created. The chapter starts with an original command sequence from 1979 to create an object. Although this may seem outdated it demonstrates several principles that are seen in modern CAD systems. One of the continuing concerns is the identification of elements for operations. This is needed for the command history and is currently seen in what is called “persistent naming”. The chapter also describes how simple dimensions and command parameters can be used to create parametric parts.
