Definition

Regulating T and B cell development and peripheral homeostasis is critical to prevent aberrant immune responses. Apoptosis is a form of programmed cell death crucial for maintaining homeostasis of T and B cells. During T and B cell development, apoptosis is involved in eliminating self-reactive cells, which is necessary to prevent autoimmunity. In the case of an infection, activated T and B cells undergo expansion in response to antigen stimulation and subsequently develop effector functions....
