Abstract

Chad Trujillo has been sitting for an hour, talking quietly about Pluto, the Kuiper Belt, and the hunt for Planet X. It is June 2006 and he has given up his free Saturday to come to his office. The corridors of the headquarters of the Gemini Observatory, in a suburb of Hilo, are dark and deserted. Chad’s small room looks as though it has been hit by a tornado. Surrounded by untidy piles of books, magazines, and papers, he sits back in a comfortable chair and talks about the discovery of ice dwarfs with unusual dimensions and moving in strange orbits. He has a soft voice and friendly eyes, his hair is combed back in a ponytail, and his hands are folded calmly across his lap.
