Abstract

After only 19 moves and less than an hour of play, the final game was over, an abrupt and dramatic ending to a historic week of chess. The previous three games had been exciting, fierce battles; in each of these drawn games, the experts felt Garry Kasparov had the advantage at some point, but Deep Blue couldn’t be toppled, baffling the world champion with its clever play. In the end, the computer prevailed.

“We’ve got the wind in our sails,” Lou Gerstner [1].
