Abstract
The intraocular and orbital structures may appear, superficially, to be well formed at birth, but dramatic morphometric, anatomic, and physiological development occurs during infancy and continues through the first several years of life.62 This chapter outlines the normal development of the human eye. A thorough understanding of normal anatomic and physiological development will enhance the reader’s understanding of the discussions on pathological entities described in later chapters.
