Abstract
This poster describes an interactive document image specification system currently under investigation which will allow an electronic template to be rapidly developed for any type of handwritten form used in financial services. The template defines the positional layout and content description of a document's constituent fields on a scanned-in image for later automatic processing using appropriate Optical Character Recognition (OCR) algorithms and local syntax constraints for improved recognition performance. The emphasis of this part of the work is on the HCI aspects of producing the electronic template of a new form.
