Summary

The OrthoPilot navigation system provides us with statistically improved accuracy in the alignment of a TKR compared with conventional manual techniques, without any additional preoperative imaging. According to a multicenter study, these results might be extended to all knee surgeons. The current version of the software allows control of the ligamentous balancing. The navigated prosthesis could have a longer survival through a more precise and more reliable quality of implantation and a more effective ligament balance, but longer follow-up is required. The cost-effectiveness of the imageless navigation technique should be compared with that of other systems, particularly ones with image-based navigation.
