Zusammenfassung

Die chronisch-obstruktive Lungenerkrankung ist weltweit zz.die vierthäufigste Todesursache;ein weiterer Anstieg von Prävalenz und Mortalität der Erkrankung wird für die kommenden Jahrzehnte vorausgesagt.Die Prävalenz wurde 1990 auf 9,34/1000 bei Männern und 7,33/1000 bei Frauen geschätzt (Murray u.Lopez 1996).Die COPD verursacht somit einen bedeutenden Anteil an Arztkonsultationen, Krankenhausaufnahmen und Notfällen.Dies bedeutet auch eine erhebliche ökonomische Belastung für die Gesundheitssysteme.
