Abstract.

We calculate the temporal response of the iron fluorescent line to the illuminating flux from orbiting flares above a black hole accretion disc. We take into account all relevant general relativistic effects. We suggest that the complex temporal behaviour of Fe line profiles seen in future data from XMM or Constellation-X may not necessarily imply a complicated model but could be explained for example in the framework of the orbiting flare model.
