Abstract.

Recent progress in the analysis of the central regions of nearby bulges and ellipticals is reviewed. Topics covered are: central density profiles, black holes, shapes of galaxy centers, relations between central and global properties of spheroids, influence of black holes and mergers on core properties. A formation scenario which links centers and their host galaxies is discussed.
