One of the two intersecting horizontal (x) or vertical (y) lines that are used as a reference for plotting data values in rectangular coordinates on a chart, a plotter, or a screen. Note: The intersection of the axes is the origin for the rectangular (x,y) coordinates. See optical axis, optical fiber axis, optic axis, signal communications axis, x-axis, y-axis, z-axis.
