These are the typical diurnal winds, best developed in medium to low latitudes, related to the daytime warming and nighttime cooling of the land, while the sea-surface temperature remains almost constant. Local (or tertiary class) circulations are thus established (Fig. 1). Various local names are used, e.g., marinada in Catalonia.
