Jacobs J (ed): The Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine: A Complete Family Guide to Complementary Therapies. Boston, Journey Editions, 1996. This text summarizes the principles and practices of a broad range of complementary therapies, as well as questions patients should ask, pictures of the procedures used, and references to other information. It is evidence-based but provides a useful overview.
Lecca PJ, McNiel JD (eds.): Interdisciplinary Team Practice: Issues and Trends. New York, Praeger, 1985. This text is an excellent state-of-the art review of interdisciplinary team practice, including rationale for development of such an approach, models, and projections for the future. Specific chapters describe various types of team care, including rehabilitation, mental health, and hospice care.
Williams SJ, Torrens RR (eds.): Introduction to Health Services, ed 3. New York, John Wiley & Sons Inc, 1988. This text describes the major features of the U.S. healthcare system from a macro level and thus serves as a nice complement to this chapter’s microview. It also addresses several economic issues, such as health manpower and the evaluation and regulation of healthcare programs, and concludes with a discussion on health policy.
