Abstract
Informing best agers and the elderly about medical and health care services is becoming increasingly important from both the political and management perspectives. Little research exists whether best agers and the elderly have a substantial need for medical and health care information, if they actively gather information accordingly and if they are satisfied with the available information. Therefore, a standardized written survey with 847 German citizens ranging from 50 years or older was conducted. The results indicate that best agers are interested in medical and health care topics in general, particularly in health protection and (new) treatments. Information on health care is acquired primarily from pharmacies and on the internet. Best agers and the elderly are especially concerned with legal and financial issues for home or residential nursing services, where friends or the internet serve as sources of information. The results imply a large potential for medical, health and nursing services marketing communications directed specifically at best agers and the elderly.
