Comparative study of some designs of the artificial heart

Conclusion

The systolic and, in particular, the diastolic resistances of types of artificial heart (AH) tested are similar. They are little affected by differences in the shape and size of the AH, types of valve, or mechanical properties of the membrane material. The values of the resistances are evidently determined mainly by the parameters of the pneumatic drive used.

The suggested parameters of the AH, being independent of the working regime, enable the quality of the various designs of AH to be objectively compared and assessed.
