Equipping transport containers with sensor nodes is today considered in logistics applications both to increase the quality of information about goods in transport and as part of counter-terrorism efforts. This paper briefly surveys how transport chains are assembled, and the security regulations that had been introduced in this sector to counter the threat of terrorism. We then give a high level description of a container monitoring system that uses Recognised Security Organisations as trusted third parties that control access to the data collected by sensor nodes placed in transport containers. We compare the features of this proposal with an alternative system being developed by IBM and Maersk Logistics
