Summary
In the formation of tertiary amines in the mechanism of the reaction of 1:3 BADGE/m-XDA (bisphenol A diglycidyl ether/m-xylylenediamine) equivalent ratio epoxy-amine formulations, we have used FAB mass spectrometry to confirm the different mechanisms of epoxy-amine reactions described by Shechter et al. (3) and have adapted a reaction to give a fluorescent adduct with tertiary amines for their colorimetric determination in the presence of primary and secondary amines, reporting several advantages over the previous method.
