Zusammenfassung

Der plötzliche Kindstod wird in den offiziellen Statistiken von Ländern mit gut ausgebauter Gesundheitsversorgung als häufigste Todesart im Säuglingsalter jenseits der Neugeborenenzeit angegeben. Obwohl bereits in der Bibel erwähnt (1. Buch Könige 3:19), wurde erst vor ca. 50 Jahren der Versuch unternommen, ihn als eigenständige Entität zu definieren.
