Abstract
The open gastrostomy is performed when percutaneous or laparoscopic gastrostomy is not an option. It is also performed as an adjunct procedure if prolonged enteral feeding or decompression is needed. This chapter describes indications, essential steps, variations, and complications of this procedure. It provides a detailed template operative note for the procedure.
