Abstract

The speed of sounduhas been obtained at a frequency of 4 MHz in {xCH3O(CH2)2OH+(1−x)H(CH2)ν(OCH2CH2)2OH} for ν=1, 2 and 4 over the whole range ofxatT=298.15 K and atmospheric pressure, using a NUSONIC velocimeter based on the sing-around technique. The excess molar volumes were taken from a previous paper and combined with the measured values of the ultrasonic speeds to give estimates of the productKS,mof the molar volume and the isentropic compressibility κS, and the excess quantityKS,mE. The deviations of the speeds of sounduDwere compared with the mixing function δucalculated in the paper. The behaviour ofu,uD, δu, andKS,mEwith composition and number of carbon atoms in the aliphatic chain of the alkoxyethanol is discussed.
