A conversion course in mental handicap
Gerard McCloskey Nurse Tutor, The Mental Health Nursing Department, Western Area College of Nursing, Londonderry
The authors describe a conversion course which enables enrolled nurses to register as nurses for the mentally handicapped. The philosophy and organisation of the course is described and the results of an evaluation are given. The course’s flexibility and the freedom of choice it offered were welcomed by students and teachers, but problems remain in devising an appropriate examination method.
