A PROFESSIONAL nurse’s career often starts as a caregiver in the inpatient or outpatient setting. Nurse managers know that, for many members of their nursing staff, this is the preamble to certification in a clinical specialty or the pursuit of an advanced practice degree. Undergraduate nursing programmes introduce research concepts, but may not identify career tracks in research other than the role of an advanced practice nurse investigator.
